And the expected partly sunny skies should make... [read news]

Google violated Dutch data protection laws, says watchdog

The decision came after a seven-month investigation into changes Google made to its privacy policy. The changes were made in March 2012 and meant Google gathered data on people who used more than one of its services. Google said it provided specific information to users about the data it collected on them. In a summary of its findings, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) said that Google's policy did not do enough to specify what it... [read news]

Jonathan Trott: Trescothick supports England batsman

Jonathan Trott made the right decision to leave England's Ashes tour, says ex-England batsman Marcus Trescothick. Trott, 32, has left Australia to recover from a "long-standing stress-related condition". That was also the description used when Trescothick returned home from down under in 2006. "It would have been horrible for him to make that decision to come home," Trescothick told BBC Radio 5 live. "[But] he's... [read news]

'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' breaks November record

The girl on fire is still burning bright! Lionsgate's hotly anticipated sequel "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" trounced the competition over its first weekend at the box office, pulling in an estimated $161.1 million. That gross handily beats the $152.5 million opening of "The Hunger Games," which opened in March 2012, and it stands as the best November debut of all time ahead of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which bowed with $142.9... 'The Walking Dead': David Morrissey explains why the Governor just did what he did

Remember that kinder, gentler version of the Governor we were introduced to last week on The Walking Dead? You know, the one who was rocking a wacky beard and retrieving oxygen tanks for sick old men? Well, he was decidedly less kind and less gentle in this latest episode (titled “Dead Weight”). First off, he clubbed Martinez with…well, a golf club, and then fed him to zombies. After that, he killed poor Pete (who made the mistake of... [read news]

French woes hurt Europe's tepid recovery

A deepening slowdown in France has rekindled fears that Europe's second-largest economy could slip back into recession. Data out Thursday also revealed the country is acting as a brake on the region's already frail recovery. This month's preliminary reading of sentiment among purchasing managers revealed a sharper slowdown in France than economists were expecting. Manufacturing activity fell to a six-month low of 47.8 in November, down... [read news]
