MSNBC host Martin Bashir apologizes for 'shameful' comments about Sarah Palin

Martin Bashir was forced to eat his words after slamming Sarah Palin for equating America's deficit to slavery, declaring on his MSNBC show that Palin (whom he dubbed "America's resident dunce" and a "world-class idiot") should receive a slave's punishment for the insult by having to eat feces. After blasting the former Alaska governor Friday, a humbled Bashir apologized on his show Monday — calling his words "wholly unacceptable …... [read news]

Another month, another downgrade for the world economy, this time from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. "The recovery is real, but at a slow... [read news]

An inexpensive touch-screen Windows 8 laptop

The good: The Asus Vivobook X202E is very inexpensive for a touch-screen Windows 8 laptop, and looks and feels like a more high-end system. The bad: The CPU trades down to a slower model, battery life is unimpressive, and the large touch pad is flaky. The bottom line: It's great to see more touch-screen Windows 8 laptops under $600, but note that the Asus X202E requires some compromises in performance and battery life. The cost of entry... Serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin prepares to die

Joseph Paul Franklin is unblinking and empty as he talks about his victims. Do you know how many people you murdered? "I'd rather not mention it," he says flatly. By my count, it's 22 people. "That's approximately it." And those two young boys, just 13, 14 years old. "Yeah, I regret the fact that I shot them now," he replies. Franklin has been away from the civilized world for more than 30 years, serving several life sentences behind... [read news]

New York City Council set to turn sharply left toward a more liberal agenda

The City Council is about to take a sharp left turn. Twenty-one new Council members are about to take office, and many of them are more liberal than the lawmakers they will replace — creating a tipping point, analysts say, in favor of a “progressive” agenda that has been bottled up for decades. New Yorkers can expect everything from the expansion of workers’ rights to the imposition of new burdens on businesses. “You have a... [read news]
